New Year: New Audition

Hello All,
So I have a big audition coming up tomorrow! Its for a summer gig at a theatre in Kentucky! They are doing fabulous shows that are just right for me. I would appreciate any good vibes that you can send my way! I'm planning on singing "As We Stumble Along" from The Drowsy Chaperone. I also plan on wearing my black dress and red shoes. This has become my audition staple because its a simple dress that looks good and then POP! There's color! Also, its color where you don't expect it. They can remember me as the girl with the red shoes and the fabulous voice!
The other reason I am writing this post is because I need to remember my New Year's resolution: BE BOLD. I need to do this tomorrow and go for it wholeheartedly! NO BACKING DOWN, JACKIE! Book this job! You got this, girl!

BE BOLD!!!

Gratitude List

Hey All,
So, yesterday I had a wonderful day...nothing special, just a relaxing day at work filled with some nice moments. However, when I got home a couple of unpleasant things happened. No need to go into detail because its not important. Of course, I focused on those bad things and let it put a damper on my day. Luckily, I was reminded by someone to focus on the good. So, its time for a new gratitude list so that I can notice the happy things!

I'm grateful that yesterday:

1. I discovered this amazing blog: http://parisvsnyc.blogspot.com/
2. That I watched this youtube video. It made me smile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfgFJf2CqLo
3. I got to listen to my amazing 80s pandora playlist!!
4. I had a nice conversation with one of the kids at work.
5. It wasn't raining when I left work so I could go for a nice walk.
6. It was a relaxing, non-stressful day.
7. I got to have a nice phone chat with my sister-in-law and niece in California.
8. I figured out another dress option for my cousin's wedding this weekend and its a MICHAEL KORS DRESS. Gotta love Project Runway!
9. I got to watch Top Chef online! Restaurant Wars!
10. I also got to watch Modern Family and The Middle: my two new show obsessions!

Wow! That just reminded me what a great day I had yesterday! Gratitude lists really do help! Thanks for indulging me...oh and check out that youtube video. Its hilarious!

My Favorite Things

Hi All!

Have you ever seen a piece of theatre or a movie, or a musical performance that just touched you and has stayed with you ever since? I know I have and this is especially true for me in regards to theatrical experiences. Well, today on Playbill.com, there was a piece written by the talented Victoria Clark recounting her favorite theatre experiences. You can find that article here. Well I just thought this was such a brilliant idea and a great new blog post! So without further ado, here is my list!:

1. Contact National Tour at the Forrest Theatre in Philadelphia: I will never forget the night I saw this show. I was a sophomore in high school and a huge fan of Susan Stroman's work. If you don't know her, she directed and choreographed the critically-acclaimed production of The Producers. Look her up, she's amazing. At this time in my life I also really hated being tall. I will never forget seeing Holly Cruikshank (an actress of my height!) dance circles around everyone and standing tall and proud. It was inspiring...so inspiring in fact that I made a resolution that night that I wanted to study theatre in college and be an actress. I also vowed to always stand tall....and it was the subject of my college admission essay.

2. Godspell at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia: I love Godspell and I don't care who knows it! It is such a fun show and I am dying to be in one day! A couple of years ago, the Walnut Street Theatre in Philly put on a production that was completely revamped; Song styles and orders were changed. They also set the show under the Ben Franklin Bridge in Philly and the characters were all homeless. It was so original and there were a bunch of stellar performances. Such a great production. I wish I had a video.

3. Reasons To Be Pretty on Broadway: Wow! What a play! I loved it! And again, amazing performances and a powerful message. I hope to catch it when it plays in Philly this spring.

4. Sunday in the Park with George on Broadway: I saw it twice and Jenna Russell and Daniel Evans were just breathtaking. I had to catch my breath a couple of times during this show. The projections were also fascinating. I wish I had a video of this too.

5. Bernadette Peters in Follies and A Little Night Music on Broadway: Enough said. She's brilliant and so were these productions. Go see Follies before it closes at the end of the month!

There are so many more shows that I could add...but these are the top 5. I look forward to my next breathtaking theatre experience! And I beg you, go see live theatre! Support us please! Link

And At Last I See the Light!

I finally had my Tangled moment this weekend!!

Let me explain what I mean by that. Do you know the part in Tangled when they are sitting in the boat and there are all the laterns in the sky and then they sing And At Last I See the Light? I mean, hello?! Best Disney moment ever! Its every girl's dream.

Well, ladies, I have some amazing news for you! In NYC, for a small amount of money, you can have that night under the lights! On Saturday night, I went to the indian restaurant Panna II in the East Village. Its on 1st Avenue between 5th and 6th streets and you can't miss it. The windows are COVERED with blinking Christmas lights. And the funny part? Apparently its like that all year! I heard about Panna II last year when I was on tour from one of my cast mates. Ever since then, I have been dying to go! I am happy to say that I wasn't disappointed! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was awesome. When it's someone's birthday (there were two parties while we were there), they turn off all the lights and do a light show and sing and dance while they bring out dessert for the birthday boy or girl! So cool right? I may have to go there for my birthday this year!

Also, I have to mention, it is insanely cheap. I paid $18 (and that's with tip!). Its BYOB, so you don't need to pay for drinks, which is nice too! They even have a deal where you can share an entree between two people and also get an appetizer, soup and dessert for like $29. Its totally worth it and we are planning to do that next time!

If you decide to go, and you should, be sure to go in the right place, because in this building there are 4 indian restaurants. Panna II is the one on the second floor right hand sign. Luckily there is a sign out front.

So, thanks Panna II for a wonderful evening with lots of light, love and delicious food...oh and the free mango ice cream. :) It was the perfect end!

Christmas Week Surprises

Happy Christmas Week Everyone!

In my humble opinion, I think that this week and the week in between Christmas and New Years are the best two weeks of the year. I've been enjoying my week so far: work and then a few wonderful Christmas activities. On Sunday, I treated myself to a mani/pedi. I'm currently sporting dark red nail polish and I LOVE it! I feel very Christmas-y! I'm planning on getting my haircut on Wednesday, so I'm very excited for that! I will be all ready to celebrate!

In other wonderful news, I surprisingly finished my shopping last night. It was totally unexpected and very exciting! I have one more gift to get, which is a super easy purchase! Just like everyone else, I was worried that I wasn't going to get it all done with my work schedule this week. But I did it! So Wednesday night, I will head to Macy's to get that last present and then treat myself to the haircut! Wahoo!

Last night, I had the pleasure attending a work Christmas party and then a friend's Christmas gathering. Both events were fun, but I especially loved going to my friend's. It was a last minute invitation and someone who I hadn't seen in a long time. It was so nice to reconnect and catch up! To me, that is what Christmas is all about: spending time with friends and family and having fun. As stressful as this time of year can get, its nice to take a break and enjoy some good food and drinks and laugh with friends. Last night was exactly what I needed to push through the rest of the week! So, thank you dear friend for that invitation...it really warmed my heart. :)

I hope everyone enjoys some little surprises this week as well. :)

Happy Christmas!

-Jackie O.

PS: The youtube video for today is my absolute favorite Christmas song. They actually sang it at mass the other day. That was another lovely surprise for me this week!! I'm planning on singing it at Christmas Eve mass! Enjoy!
